America’s Andrew Hudson wins Beijing Championship qualifier

BEIJING, CHINA(May 6,2019)―America’s Andrew Hudson shot a 5-under 67 to win the Monday qualifier and secure entry into this week’s Beijing Championship, the fourth event of this year’s PGA TOUR Series-China.

Chinese Taipei’s Wei-Hsuan Wang, 19, shot 68 at Topwin Golf and Country Club to finish second, one shot ahead of China’s Wu Di while America’s Gregory Moss carded a 71 to share fourth with South Korea’s Euiin Kim.

Chinese amateur Junlin Zhao and America’s Kevin Chen both shot 72 to share sixth, one ahead of China’s Jianfu Xing, Australia’s Corey Hale, and South Korea’s Jaewon Lee to round out the 10 qualifiers to earn direct entry.

Hudson, who played college golf at the University of North Texas, was steady throughout the day, picking up five birdies in a bogey-free round and is excited to make his Tour debut on Thursday after failing to make it past the Monday qualifier in the opening three events of the season. This will be Hudson’s first start on any PGA TOUR-affiliated Tour.

“I drove the ball really well, which helped me score so that was my biggest thing. If I can keep driving the ball well and keep it on the fairway, I think it can be a good week,” said Hudson, who tied for 30th at the Tour’s second Global Qualifying School. “I have conditional status, so I would like to get re-shuffled into the second half of the season, so this week I just need to play the way that I know I can play and hopefully get the results to speak for themselves.”

Wang will also be making his PGA TOUR Series-China debut, while Wu will play in his first event of the 2019 season after seeing action in two tournaments a year ago, one as an amateur (Macau Championship) and one as a professional (Zhuhai Championship, where he tied for 45th for his first made cut).

Tournament Fast Fact

This is the second Beijing Championship but fourth PGA TOUR Series-China event to take place at Topwin Golf and Country Club. In 2018, Canada’s Peter Campbell won the Beijing Championship and he will compete Thursday to defend his title
